FAQ & Prep for FAA Physicals

Advice from Dr. Sarah

Plan Ahead

If you have concerns about passing your first or next physical, then early action is your best action!

  1. Complete your FAA application well ahead of time!

  2. Schedule your FAA physical early

    • Start the process early by scheduling 2 to 3 months ahead of your certification expiring. This gives Dr. Sarah ample time to guide you through any additional steps required by the FAA to get or retain your certification.

  3. Get an eye exam!

    • Failed eye exams are a leading cause of FAA certification failure. You know if your eyes are a little fuzzier than they used to be. Get an eye exam ahead of your FAA physical appointment, and get those glasses or contacts adjusted to ensure your vision doesn’t misguide you.

I just got diagnosed with a new health concern or added a new medication. What should I do?

  • Schedule early! Start at least 60 days early, so that Dr. Sarah can assist you with this process. The sooner you start with her, the sooner she can guide you through the necessary steps.

  • Search your disease process or medication on the FAA AME Guide to see if it may cause certification delays.

  • For example: If you have hypertension or take hypertension medications, the FAA details here what Dr. Sarah, as your AME, will be looking for to qualify you for certification.

I have a health concern that may delay my certification. What should I bring to my FAA physical appointment?

  • Bring all your doctor’s notes, surgical reports, or any documentation that illustrates your condition is under control and well managed.

  • For example: If you have sleep apnea and use a machine, bring your compliance report with you.

  • Call us now! Unsure about your condition or medications? Even if your certification is not due for several months, we want to prepare you for a successful appointment and certification.
